“Privileged Access Management (PAM) is an essential component in protecting organizations against cyber-attacks, ransomware, malware, phishing, and data leaks.”
KuppingerCole’s 2021 Leadership Compass for Privileged Access Management (PAM) has again recognized BeyondTrust as a Leader. This analyst research report positions BeyondTrust as a clear leader across all three leadership metrics—Product, Innovation, and Market. BeyondTrust is pleased to have received the highest marks possible for Security, Functionality, Usability, Innovativeness, Market Position, Financial Strength, Ecosystem, and Deployment.
The KuppingerCole Leadership Compass is an annual independent research report with in-depth ratings and reviews of the top-26 leading PAM products. The report helps security and IAM leaders understand the PAM market and identify solutions that help them address their privileged access security needs.

Earlier this year, BeyondTrust was also recognized as an overall Leader and the product Leader in KuppingerCole’s first-ever Leadership Compass for Privileged Access Management for DevOps. Taken together, we believe these two KuppingerCole reports on the PAM space show BeyondTrust’s clear leadership and product depth across a broad swathe of PAM use cases.

KuppingerCole Recognizes BeyondTrust’s Innovation and Product Strengths
In the 2021 Leadership Compass for PAM, KuppingerCole praises BeyondTrust’s ongoing innovation and development of new market-leading capabilities. KuppingerCole said that, “Since our last Leadership Compass, BeyondTrust has added new capabilities across the board,” and that BeyondTrust had a, “busy and highly productive year of product development.”
KuppingerCole also noted that the BeyondTrust solution is “…One of the most comprehensive on the market, covering all the recognized functionalities of a PAM suite and takes account of the global interest in securing Privileged Access for home working.”
Here are some other BeyondTrust strengths that were highlighted in the report:
- Proven enterprise-class solution that is scalable and available on-premises or in the cloud. In addition, the ability to mix/match solutions across 3 main categories provides flexibility.
- Strong endpoint and remote access functionality, good visibility, and control of third-party remote access.
- Host-based approach for controlled privilege elevation and delegation management (CPEDM) that delivers strong and granular command control for privilege elevation.
All Major Analysts Agree - BeyondTrust a Top-2 PAM Leader
The KuppingerCole 2021 PAM Leadership compass is the third major PAM industry/vendor research analysis to come out this year, following the 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Privileged Access Management and The Forrester Wave: Privileged Identity Management Report. Each of these analyst reports recognizes BeyondTrust as one of the top two leaders in Privileged Access Management. As mentioned, BeyondTrust was also recognized as one of the top two vendors for PAM for DevOps in a separate KuppingerCole report earlier this year.
KuppingerCole defines PAM as comprised of (Privileged) Password Management, Session Management, and Endpoint Privilege Management, with features such as application-to-application password management (AAPM), remote privileged access, just-in-time access (JIT), and account discovery considered optional.
BeyondTrust takes an expansive view of PAM, and, as such, we have built deep capabilities across all the PAM capabilities recognized by KuppingerCole. Our PAM platform is deep and comprehensive. Our approach to controlling all privileged access everywhere is rigorous. BeyondTrust provides leading capabilities, backed by a tremendous team of employees and partners to support your success in achieving risk-reduction, operational efficiency, and ROI goals.
Where is PAM Going Next?
In their 2021 PAM Leadership Compass, KuppingerCole says, “While PAM platforms have been around for around 20 years, the demands of digital transformation and wholesale structural changes to IT architecture have intensified interest in Privileged Access Management software and applications – across all market sectors. KuppingerCole research shows that the PAM market is responding and growing because of these challenges and is in a vigorous period of growth and innovation.”
KuppingerCole noted the rising prominence of just-in-time access capabilities to drive toward zero standing privilege environments, as well as the increasing importance of applying PAM to address zero trust security principles. In the intro paragraph of their Leadership Compass for PAM, KuppingerCole also notes that, “A critical role for PAM is controlling the use of privileges in remote and work-from-home environments.” These are all areas where we believe BeyondTrust has been trailblazing innovation in the PAM space.
By being well ahead of the curve, such as developing mature Secure Remote Access capabilities years before the coronavirus pandemic, and making just-in-time access a core capability across our platform, BeyondTrust has experienced tremendous growth over the last year. And as more organizations are interested in enabling zero trust, we are poised to help them with a deep PAM platform that can enable and support zero trust controls, and risk-reduction objectives, across their enterprise.
