The State of Illinois faced a challenging task: move 30,000 employees into a work-from-home setup that successfully granted employees access to their workstations from personal devices at home and met the state’s stringent compliance standards. Traditional tooling such as VPN could not scale enough to accommodate this number of employees.

The Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) turned to BeyondTrust Remote Support as a solution for seamlessly enabling remote support and securely managing and monitoring remote sessions across their workforce, and with collaboration from the BeyondTrust team, rolled out the new solution within days.

  • Seamless work-from-home setup: With BeyondTrust Remote Support, the State of Illinois's employees can access their office desktops remotely and securely, via any browser, on almost any device, without needing a VPN or additional access controls.
  • Secure servicing for any device: Remote Support also allows the Illinois DoIT to see employees' screens, gather critical system information, access device cameras to assist with hardware / peripheral setup, administer endpoints, and control remote computers and devices—all without having to pivot to other toolsets or interrupting end users' activities.
  • Rapid deployment: The strong collaboration between BeyondTrust and DoIT enabled them to implement Remote Support in under five days.
  • High level of data security: BeyondTrust's security standards lined up with the DoIT's stringent compliance regulations, upholding best practices such as keeping data on systems within state facilities and using encryption during the implementation of Remote Support.
  • Scalability for the future: Not only did Remote Support meet the State of Illinois's immediate needs, but it also put the agile infrastructure in place for future growth and shifts in workforce policies.

“We needed to find a tool to enable remote work as effectively, securely and quickly as possible, to be able to facilitate the critical business of government.”

Adam Ford, Chief Information Security Officer, Illinois, Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT)
