Evolving Privileged Account Management for Maximum Operational Efficiency

We all want to make our lives easier, but how much privilege management is enough? At BeyondTrust, we see more and more organizations looking to simplify the tool sets used to manage their internal security and compliance environments. Historically, many organizations purchased privilege management solutions to address specific audit findings or challenges in isolation. This has enabled these organizations to achieve their goal of managing specific assets and problems. Overtime, however, this has resulted in separate management processes via separate consoles , which isn’t operationally efficient nor does it maximize their value in securing the organization and prioritizing risks to the organization. Now organizations are looking to consolidate and unify their security and IT operations processes, and therefore simplify their audit preparation. BeyondTrust is responding to this desire to simplify by integrating our individual, standalone products under a broader Privileged Account Management (PAM) framework operating within our BeyondInsight IT Risk Management Platform. While still available as powerful standalone solutions, our PAM products will also work within the BeyondInsight console to communicate and share data with one another, as well as with our Retina Vulnerability Management solutions. This enables all of our solutions to benefit from common capabilities for everything from asset discovery to workflow, while empowering users with correlated reporting and analytics for deeper visibility into PAM activities and associated risks. While BeyondTrust PAM modules have different levels of BeyondInsight integration today*, over time these modules will become features of the broader PAM stack with common reporting and policy management interfaces to abstract the complexities of the various components. This will greatly simplify the deployment and management of PAM across the heterogeneous computing environment and lower the barriers of adoption for small and medium-sized organizations. BeyondInsight not only includes intelligent integration within the BeyondTrust solution portfolio, but also with third-party security and operational solutions. Customers can therefore leverage industry-standard APIs to enable automation and tighter integration with provisioning, change management and other operational systems. In addition to providing an extensive library of third-party integrations, BeyondTrust is currently standardizing policy constructs and interfaces across PAM modules. This initiative is simplifying and standardizing existing module interfaces including command lines, web services, database, syslog, SMTP, and using a common RESTFul web services framework. While compliance remains as a critical driver for Privileged Account Management, broader adoption will increase operational efficiency and effectiveness. *BeyondTrust solutions with BeyondInsight Platform support as of March 2014 include PowerBroker for UNIX & Linux, PowerBroker for Windows, and Retina CS Enterprise Vulnerability Management. BeyondInsight support for additional PowerBroker solutions is in development. Ask your account executive for additional details.
