BeyondTrust has released the latest updates to Privileged Remote Access (PRA), which allows organizations to secure, control, and audit vendor and internal remote access. PRA 22.3’s new features will enhance the user experience for existing users and further extend PRA’s role as the best secure remote access solution on the market.

What’s New with 22.3?

Privileged Remote Access version 22.3 offers a new search function for the login interface. This functionality, which offers a streamlined admin experience, will be welcomed by existing admins and will make administration easier for admins who are new to Privileged Remote Access. Additionally, this new release offers increased Jump Client scalability when using the Atlas configuration. It also offers the ability for technicians to use native tools (BYOT) when connecting to Jump Clients via command shell. Both of these new features highlight BeyondTrust’s commitment to enhancing the user experience for both users and admins.

Below is a brief round-up of the new features from the release of version 22.3. For more detailed information, please check out the full release notes.

Search Functionality in login Interface

BeyondTrust has been working hard to make PRA into the robust solution that it is today so that it can be utilized to securely allow privileged internal and vendor access for the most security conscious organizations in the world. As a result, the login administrative interface is exceptionally granular and allows discreet control over the privileges that can be given to admins and users. In PRA 22.3, admins can now search for specific sections and settings using the administrative interface. This new functionality allows admins to search for keywords and then navigate directly to this section/function from the search. This functionality is available everywhere in the login interface. It greatly reduces the time required to find items for both seasoned admins and those who are new to the solution.

Jump Client Upgrade Flexibility

Administrators can now control when their Jump Clients upgrade after their PRA site is upgraded to a newer version. Upgrades can also be tested by updating a few endpoints prior to rolling out the new version to the rest of the environment.

Atlas – Jump Client Traffic Node Connectivity

Customers using the Atlas configuration have available new functionality that permits Jump Clients to route through an Atlas traffic node, enabling greater scalability and geo-specific connections. This is particularly useful for Atlas configurations that are spread out over great geographic distances.

Bring Your Own Tools – Jump Clients (Command Shell)

This new functionality enables users to leverage their existing native terminal for Jump Client sessions without needing to use the solution's built-in functionality. A new setting is available in the desktop access console to configure this extension of the BYOT functionality. This option is currently available for the desktop access console only.

Web Access Console – Dark Mode

Dark mode, which was introduced in PRA 22.2 (desktop console only), has now been extended to the web access console, allowing those who prefer it to enjoy the updated colors while avoiding bright screens and reducing eye strain.

Vendor Access Enhancements

A principle use case for PRA is the provisioning of secure vendor access. Release 22.3 brings a few enhancements that further extend the security and control of vendor access with features that offer even more advanced just in time (JIT) and least privilege access controls. These include:

  • Jump Authorization Requests - As soon as it is not needed, an active authorization request can now be revoked by the user who made the request, as can any approver.
  • Jump Request Approvals - Jump requests can now be approved by selected PRA users in addition to emails. This allows for better tracking and auditing of who approved a given request.
