Breaches of U.S. hospitals, physician groups, and their supporting vendors by cybercriminals have surged in the past two years. The first quarter of 2024 alone witnessed a major children’s hospital falling victim to a ransomware attack, severely disrupting patient care for weeks. This was quickly followed by another attack on a medical payment processing company, sending shockwaves through doctors' practices, hospital systems, and pharmacies nationwide. This escalating issue demands urgent attention, being both a critical patient safety concern and a strategic priority for C-suite executives leading U.S. healthcare organizations.
