If Christmas is a time for reflection and tradition, then the New Year is a time when many of us make those New Year resolutions. My New Year’s resolution this year is to keep a positive attitude, but I doubt that will last long.
On a serious note, one aspect of the New Year that has always intrigued me is the media publication of elements contained within Old Moores Almanack. This annual publication produced today by W. Foulsham & Company Limited, offers predictions of world and sporting events, as well as more conventional data such as tide tables. It’s been going since 1697 originally written by the self-taught physician and astrologer Francis Moore, a member of the court of Charles II.
So rather than start the year with resolutions, for 2013 I’ve decided to put on e-paper some predictions for Avecto and the least privilege arena.
- With the demise of Windows XP now months rather than years away, the push to complete a migration to Windows 7 and engage with Windows 8 is now on. Integral to these migrations will be the introduction of Least Privilege – we saw it in 2012 and I expect to see the same thing again but to a larger degree in 2013.
- Insider threats continue to be the largest security headache for the enterprise with the “privilege creeper” recognized as being a fundamental culprit. Many organizations are already taking insider threats very seriously and with technology to help mitigate such things why wouldn’t they. Avecto will make greater strides in 2013 to help companies further combat this serious security hole
- In the wake of the global financial crisis, compliance mandates continue to be on the up and drive a need for accurate, granular reporting. Our planned product releases are geared to helping organizations make the process of compliance much simpler and easier to manage.
- A key business driver for every organization will be the need for solution integration. To be able to deploy, manage and report on multiple policies will ease resource requirements and costs. With our McAfee ePO integration capabilities, Avecto will continue to develop channel relationships to address this demand.
- As a result of all of the above, Avecto will spread its wings into new geographical markets and it will become a growth objective to establish localized offices in these areas.
It goes without saying that these are simple, educated guesses but I would wager that when we look back at 2013 my version of “Old Moores Almanack” will be close to the truth.
All the very best for 2013!
Paul.
