“Social engineering is key in successful phishing attacks, regardless of the delivery mechanism. We are seeing more spear phishing and highly targeted attacks when compared to bulk attacks. This is true in many aspects of hacking, including ransomware, where there’s been an increase in human-operated attacks rather than the blindly replicating ransomwares. Fewer targets, bigger potential rewards but more careful work to achieve their goals," says Brian Chappell of BeyondTrust.
