Retailers are moving away from large, permanent point-of-sale (POS) registers in favor of mobile POS (mPOS) solutions. According to a recent IHL Group study (subscription required), 28 percent of North American retailers plan to adopt mPOS in some form by the end of 2013, and the mPOS market will surpass $2 billion in hardware/software sales in North America this year.

Those systems range from simple dongle-and-smartphone combos favored by small retailers to robust solutions that include inventory checking, ordering, training, product information and payment acceptance. Read more.
