“According to Chappell, both buyers and sellers can spot a scammer in the little details. “Most email tools will show you the true destination if you hover your mouse over the links in the message. Watch for minor misspellings that might get missed. Those few extra moments are worth it,” he said. If one does receive an email from a known sender, ensuring that the link the sender sent redirects you to their website is a safer way to shop. “Even better, after you read through the email, go directly to the seller’s website, rather than using the link provided in the email. Reputable sellers will only be directing you to the discount in the email, restricting access to only those with the link. Remember, they want to sell a lot of items at this price to still meet their revenue targets – they don’t want to limit it to a small number of people, regardless of what they say,” BeyondTrust’s Chappell said.
