Job Summary

The Legal Counsel – Data Protection will be an important part of the legal team, working closely with the DPO and other teams to identify and manage legal and commercial risk relating to the collection and processing of personal data by the organisation. This position will have a mix of transactional and privacy management duties and requires strong analytical, attention to detail and communications skills; excellent interpersonal and prioritisation capabilities; a commercially focused mindset; and an aptitude for providing pragmatic solutions. This individual must have experience working in-house within a global commercial environment with a thorough understanding of the key provisions of cloud/SaaS agreements and be able to independently negotiate with customers and vendors to complete contracts in a timely manner with minimal supervision. Experience of privacy management programs and cross-border transfers is also required.

What you will do:

•    Provide legal resource and advice on global privacy matters such as:
        o    Drafting and negotiating data processing agreements (DPA’s), both customer and vendor facing, as part of the wider commercial                contract negotiations.
        o    Repapering and negotiating existing commercial agreements with third parties and key suppliers, including locating in scope                      contracts and drafting amendments in line with new legal requirements.
        o    Providing support in relation to data privacy impact assessments, transfer impact assessments and data subject requests.
        o    Assisting in the implementation and execution of global data privacy programs, including the provision of training to the                              organisation, data mapping and updating contracts templates and policies.
        o    Providing support on data privacy matters involving employee and non-employee related queries and projects.
•    The majority of your work will be data privacy focused. The remainder of your time will be spent advising and supporting other areas          of  the business including providing general legal support as required (support and training will be provided where appropriate).
