PowerBroker Servers Protects Root Password

BeyondTrust, June 22nd, 2011

An IT outsourcing company (responsible for integrating the IT systems for one of the world’s largest manufacturing companies) was tasked with managing its clients’ critical SAP/Oracle-based environment. The company committed to creating and maintaining a controlled and secure environment for the client, however this endeavor was wrought with challenges.

In order for the goal to be successful, users needed to be able to do their jobs and access necessary applications (which require admin rights) while being denied access to other unauthorized tasks at the same time. Previously users were running with generic administrator accounts, with the root password open for use. The companywas looking for a solution that could allow required applications to run while protecting the root password.

This is where BeyondTrust comes in. PowerBroker Servers not only provided answers to the challenges the company faced in managing their client’s environment, but it also offered additinoal capabilities to ease support and strengthen security. PowerBroker Servers provides selective delegation of UNIX administrative privilege for users without providing full root access, in addition to managing privileges and applications.
