PowerBroker for Unix & Linux Now Available via Web Services

Paul Harper, April 10th, 2014

This week BeyondTrust released a fully functional Web Services interface (REST API) for its PowerBroker for Unix & Linux product.  With this new feature users of the solution will now be able to remotely and securely configure and retrieve data via the API.  The Web Services interface implemented by BeyondTrust is an industry standard that uses modern components, connectors and data elements within a distributed and secure enterprise environment.  Although delivered as a separate module today, all future builds will contain this new functionality out-of-the-box on all components where product settings, policy configuration and IO log retrieval can take place, making it a snap for users to interface with their identity management and security tools, or home grown apps.

The main functional areas supported by the API at this time within PowerBroker for Unix & Linux are:

  • Global Settings
  • License Files and Settings
  • Policy File Management
  • Session Logs
  • Event Logs
  • Encryption Key Management
  • Indexing Service

The introduction of Web Services will allow PowerBroker for Unix & Linux to achieve more seamless integration with the other pieces of the Risk Management platform, BeyondInsight, and will increase the ways in which PowerBroker for Unix & Linux itself can be developed in future releases.  Web Services is a big step forward in what is going to be an exciting period of growth for this indispensable security tool.
