Winternals Protection Manager customers are offered free licenses of industry leading solution, BeyondTrust Privilege Manager
Portsmouth, NH – October 23, 2006 – BeyondTrust™ Corporation, the leading provider of Least Privilege
Security solutions, today offered an upgrade path to customers of Winternals Protection Manager. Winternals Protection Manager
customers interested in ongoing support and product upgrades can receive a free BeyondTrust Privilege Manager license for each
license of Protection Manager they have purchased. The BeyondTrust Privilege Manager licenses are free with the purchase of
Premium Support and Upgrade Assurance.
BeyondTrust Privilege Manager was the first solution to enable customers to implement the security best practice of Least
Privilege and has been on the market since February of 2004. BeyondTrust team members developed the innovative Privilege Manager
technology under the name PolicyMaker Application Security. The product has won many awards including, “Best of Microsoft TechEd
2006 - Security Finalist “ (Windows IT Pro/SQL Server Magazine), and “Best Product of 2005 - Policy Management” (MSD2D People’s
Choice Security Award).
“Winternals Protection Manager customers will find the migration to BeyondTrust Privilege Manager easy. Customers will continue to
be able to allow restricted end-users to run applications with administrative privileges,” said Joe L’Italien, VP of Sales at
BeyondTrust. “In addition customers will enjoy features only available in BeyondTrust Privilege Manager. With Privilege Manager
companies can allow restricted users to self install approved applications and browser components, such as ActiveX controls. For
Administrators, permissions can also be reduced when running applications that do not require admin privileges, such as IE and
Outlook. Most importantly, customers will enjoy BeyondTrust’s continued support and product upgrades.”
Bill Shelton, Microsoft Group Product Manager for System Center, states “We are pleased BeyondTrust is providing Winternals
customers with an alternate path for their Least Privilege Security needs”. Privilege Manager is implemented as a true Group
Policy extension. Privilege Manager policy is managed in Microsoft’s Group Policy Management Console and distributed via Group
Policy. Applications, users and computers are targeted using standard Group Policy conventions and Privilege Manager per-setting
filters.
