Pioneer in Helping Organizations to Eliminate Admin Rights Gains Significant Worldwide Channel Momentum
PORTSMOUTH, NH. – June 9, 2008 — BeyondTrust Corporation, the first provider of Least Privilege Management solutions, today announced the expansion of its international channel. Based on the success of its flagship product, BeyondTrust Privilege Manager, the company has grown its worldwide channel program to more than 35 partners worldwide, with recent additions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Brazil.
"As a BeyondTrust distributor, gaining traction with Privilege Manager and signing up new channel partners has been really great," said Stuart Reay, managing director for Arc Technology in the UK. "Every organization has this problem and just bringing up the subject entices IT management and network administrators to want to evaluate the product. We also use webinars for prospects to see the product’s capabilities. Privilege Manager is a very easy product to demonstrate, explain, sell and use."
Privilege Manager solves a security problem that affects nearly all organizations running Microsoft Windows and that has appeared on internal security audits for years, namely end-users with local administrator rights. These rights can be exploited by malware and users to change standard security configuration settings, install unauthorized software, and compromise Windows networks and data. Organizations have been unable to remove administrator rights because there is a business need to allow end-users to install software and run the home-grown and commercially developed applications they need to do their jobs that by design require administrator privileges. Privilege Manager enables organizations to remove administrator rights from end-users while still allowing them to run and install all required applications and ActiveX controls.
Recent Gartner research outlines the benefits of locked down and well-managed PCs, where users are not administrators and tools are used to manage all the PCs, along with IT processes and policies. "The Gartner migration cost model shows that a company can migrate a well-managed PC to Windows Vista for almost 31% less than it can an unmanaged PC, and that the IT labor cost component to migrate an unmanaged PC is more than double that of migrating a locked, well-managed PC." Gartner, Inc., Toolkit Best Practice: Updated Vista Migration Cost Model Shows Savings Through Attrition Publication, Michael A. Silver, November 30, 2007.
As a business proposition to channel partners, Privilege Manager provides a new security best practice they can offer their customers that not only improves security in all enterprise Windows networks, but also lowers the cost of managing workstations and migrating to Vista. In a Least Privilege environment, users only have the privileges necessary to perform their duties—nothing more. In a non-Least Privilege environment, every time a user is granted privileges that go beyond what is required for a specific task, the system is put at risk and open to attacks by spyware, malware and malicious users. Privilege Manager is the first product to enable the security best practice of Least Privilege in a Windows environment, by allowing network administrators to attach permission levels to Windows applications and processes. Privilege Manager is implemented as a true Group Policy extension and supports Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Server 2003/2008. This is a solid business opportunity for value added resellers, systems integrators and distributors selling into Microsoft Active Directory networks.
"Our channel expansion is a major driver to our worldwide sales growth. We expect to be present in all major markets by the end of the year and to drive the majority of our future revenue from our worldwide channel servicing the enterprise and midmarket segments," said Joe L’Italien, vice president of worldwide sales for BeyondTrust. "We have established a solid message that resonates with customers and addresses a well recognized security problem—it is natural for channel partners to be successful and to grow their businesses with BeyondTrust."
