BeyondTrust Announces Privilege Manager 4.5
New Version Enables Organizations to Discover Applications that Require Users to Have Administrative Rights and Easily Enforce the Security Best Practice of Least Privilege throughout the Enterprise
PORTSMOUTH, NH. – August 3, 2009 — BeyondTrust Corporation today announced a new version of its flagship Least Privilege Management product, BeyondTrust Privilege Manager 4.5. This new version enables enterprises to discover Windows applications that require users to have administrative rights. Armed with this knowledge, the integrated solution allows customers to develop informed plans and remove users’ administrative rights without any application downtime, while also providing transparent privilege elevation for all authorized applications and tasks.
"Allowing employees to run with administrator rights makes companies more susceptible to malicious users and viruses, and prevents compliance with regulatory mandates, such as FDCC, SOX and HIPAA," said John Moyer, CEO of BeyondTrust. "Removing unnecessary rights not only facilitates compliance efforts, but also protects against zero-day threats and reduces risks caused by unauthorized changes made to the desktop by employees. Using Privilege Manager, companies get a clear view of applications that require elevated privileges so they can know the actions they need to take to protect themselves and equip their end users with exactly those privileges needed to do their jobs."
By integrating application rights discovery capabilities, BeyondTrust Privilege Manager 4.5 eliminates traditional time constraints involved with manual discovery of applications that would not function properly if administrator rights were removed. After determining which applications require elevated privileges, the solution logs this data within the client infrastructure. Then, companies can quickly determine the actions they need to take to remove administrator rights throughout the enterprise and still allow end-users to run all the required Windows applications, processes and ActiveX controls that are needed by end-users to do their jobs.
BeyondTrust’s award-winning Privilege Manager software is implemented as a Group Policy extension. Organizations simply specify the privileges necessary for an application. These privileges will be added to the application process when it is launched enabling end-users without administrative privileges to run all authorized applications. Privilege Manager reduces support costs and provide great flexibility for maintaining standardized desktop configurations, such as those recently specified in the Federal Desktop Core Configuration mandate.
