BeyondTrust Privilege Manager is Certified for Windows 7, Solving Application Compatibility Migration Issues

AGOURA HILLS, Calif.April 20, 2010 – BeyondTrust, the leading provider of Privileged Access Lifecycle Management solutions, announced today that Privilege Manager 4.7 is now certified as Microsoft Windows 7 compatible. The latest version of BeyondTrust Privilege Manager for Windows desktops was tested in accordance with Microsoft policies and guidelines which met its criteria and exceeded the quality standards for Windows 7 compatibility.

Market migration trends continue to prove Windows 7 to be the OS of choice over Vista as XP support nears its sunset date. However, it brings little relief for enterprises planning to deploy end-users without administrator rights, the recommended best practice for better security and compliance. Windows 7 introduces a new feature in User Account Control, the 4-position UAC slider that can only be operated if the user has administrator rights. UAC still does not provide a solution to enable standard users to run applications that require elevated privileges.

Companies will undoubtedly face application compatibility issues during their migration process and face potential security risks. Privilege Manager 4.7 will be key to solving compatibility issues and allows companies to become secure, compliant and productive by removing administrator rights.

"Our completion of Microsoft's Windows 7 compatibility testing is an important milestone as it provides customers with additional assurance of BeyondTrust's commitment to support their migration needs," said Steve Kelley, executive vice president of corporate development for BeyondTrust. "Windows 7 amplifies the need for the elimination of administrative rights and least privilege management and this certification will help enterprises streamline their migration to a more secure and productive Windows 7 desktop environment."

In a recent Microsoft vulnerability analysis, it was found that 90 percent of Critical Windows 7 operating system vulnerabilities are mitigated by having users log in as standard users. Privilege Manager 4.7 is a Windows 7 certified compatible solution that will allow enterprises to remove administrator rights in a Windows 7 environment to improve security and meet compliance needs while transparently giving the end user the necessary privileges to do their job.
