BeyondTrust Announces Key Updates to PowerBroker Desktops, Data Loss Prevention Product

Version 3.2 Sets New Bar For Desktop Data Loss Prevention Functionality

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Sept. 8, 2011 – BeyondTrust, the leading provider of privilege delegation and authorization management solutions, today announced PowerBroker® Desktops, DLP Edition v3.2, featuring enhanced controls for encrypted and unrecognized file formats as well as reporting of extended status and event messages to the Windows Event Log. PowerBroker Desktops, DLP Edition v3.2 helps customers centrally monitor and control data flow and assess sensitive content loss risks that can threaten organizational brand and compliance requirements.

Controls for encrypted and unrecognized file formats gives customers the ability to assign data access rules to encrypted content, such as password protected documents and archives in more than 500 file formats, as well as unknown content in unrecognized file formats. The policy rules can audit and prevent the access and transfer of encrypted or unrecognized files.

"These important updates to PowerBroker Desktops, DLP Edition v3.2 continue the evolution of our product line as we work to deliver full insider threat mitigation solutions to our customers," said Andrey Kolishchak, senior director, program management, DLP at BeyondTrust. "These updates provide additional security management controls for enhanced protection of an organization's sensitive data through a simple to deploy, cost-effective solution."

The new PowerBroker Desktops, DLP Edition adds an additional layer of security management control to the BeyondTrust privilege identity management and administrative rights portfolio by helping customers remotely monitor internal interactions and assess sensitive content loss risks that can threaten organizational brand and compliance requirements. The solution is a content-driven loss prevention system that effectively polices sensitive data on desktops by monitoring and controlling data transfer across distributed and diverse network environments, regardless of content type.

"PowerBroker Desktops, DLP Edition effectively enables us to comply with several key requirements of the ISO/IEC 27000 family of standards," said Francois Thill, directorate of e-commerce and IT security at Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy and Foreign Trade. "The definition and enforcement of information classification schemes according to confidentiality requirements is the core essence of the product. Inadvertent and even malicious disclosure of confidential information by user action or malware can be prevented for channels such as e-mail, web, local network, printers, removable disks and CD/DVD media. The integrated live monitoring and audit capabilities are strong security performance indicators that can help improve your security."

Additional updates to PowerBroker Desktops, DLP Edition v3.2 include:

  • Reporting extended status and event messages to the Windows Event Log
  • Automated remediation of SSL/TLS errors due to user certificates and custom protocols
  • Performance measures in the debug log, allowing identification and troubleshooting performance hits
  • Auto-sweep of outdated logs on the Reporting Server storage

PowerBroker Desktops, DLP Edition adds an additional layer of security management control to the BeyondTrust privilege identity management and administrative rights portfolio by helping customers centrally monitor and control data flow and assess sensitive content loss risks that can threaten organizational brand and compliance requirements. The solution is a content-driven data loss prevention system that effectively polices sensitive data on desktops by monitoring and controlling data transfer across distributed and diverse network environments, regardless of content type.

PowerBroker Desktops, DLP Edition reduces the risks of information loss and leakage by increasing IT visibility into, and jurisdiction over, endpoint violations via file encryption, usage and permission controls to intellectual property. The software enforces content-centric policy regarding the processing, use, transit and storage of sensitive data that is protected from theft and accidental leakage. The content is dynamically classified through the deep data inspection with ability to identify partial and modified sensitive content. IT departments can centrally define and manage their information security and – centrally and in real time – enact measures including alerts, encryption and transfer blocking to safeguard intellectual property. Furthermore, administrators and security personnel are granted full audit reports of intellectual property activity and access.

In addition to the new features outlined above, PowerBroker Desktops, DLP Edition includes:

  • Active Profiler – automatically detects activities posing a risk of data leaks;
